This is still not visible on the Earn Page on YouTube Studio Dashboard but it will soon be updated there as well.

Youtube Monetization Rules, New YouTube Eligibility update 2023

This means it has become easier to start earning from your YouTube Chanel as per New YouTube Monetization Rules. New YouTube Monetization Rules: What You Need to Know

If you are a YouTube creator who wants to earn money from your videos, you may have heard about the new YouTube monetization rules that will take effect in 2023. These rules will change the eligibility criteria for joining the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), the program that allows you to monetize your videos with ads, memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and YouTube Premium revenue. They will also introduce new ways to earn money from your Shorts, the short-form videos that you can create and watch on YouTube.

In this article, we will explain what these new rules are, why they are happening, and how you can prepare for them. What are the new YouTube monetization rules?

The new YouTube monetization rules are divided into two parts: the Base Terms and the Modules.

The Base Terms are the foundational contract terms that apply to all creators who want to monetize on YouTube. They include terms such as how YouTube will pay you, what content policies you need to follow, and how YouTube may adjust your earnings based on country-specific laws or rights clearance issues.

The Modules are optional contract terms that you can choose to accept or decline depending on what monetization features you want to use. There are three Modules available: the Watch Page Monetization Module, the Shorts Monetization Module, and the Commerce Product Addendum.

The Watch Page Monetization Module allows you to earn ad and YouTube Premium revenue from your long-form or live streaming videos viewed on the Watch Page (pages within YouTube, YouTube Music, or YouTube Kids dedicated to the description and playback of your videos), or when embedded on other sites in the YouTube Video Player.

This is a new feature that will be available starting from February 1, 2023. If you accept this Module, you will start earning from Shorts Feed ads and YouTube Premium revenue on your eligible Shorts views as early as February 1, 2023. If you accept it after February 1, 2023, Shorts ad revenue sharing will begin accruing on the date you accept.

The Commerce Product Addendum unlocks a series of Fan Funding features that help you earn while connecting with your fans, ranging from channel memberships to Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks.

Why are these new rules happening?

YouTube says that these new rules are meant to expand and evolve the YouTube Partner Program by giving creators more flexibility and choice in how they can earn money from their content. They also say that these rules are designed to protect the creator community from spam, abuse, and low-quality content, as well as to ensure that advertisers have confidence in the platform.

YouTube also claims that these new rules will not affect the majority of creators who already meet the existing requirements for monetization, and that only a small percentage of channels make more than $100 per year.

How can you prepare for these new YouTube Monetization rules?

If you are already in the YPP and meet the existing requirements for monetization, you don’t need to do anything. You will continue to earn money from your videos as usual. However, you will need to accept the new Base Terms by July 10, 2023 to continue monetizing on YouTube. You can also choose to accept or decline any of the Modules depending on what monetization features you want to use.

If you are not in the YPP yet, but meet the existing requirements for monetization (at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch time in the past 12 months), you can apply for monetization in your YouTube Studio dashboard. YouTube will review your channel and let you know if you are accepted within a month. You will also need to accept the new Base Terms and any of the Modules that you want to use.

If you are in the YPP, but do not meet the existing requirements for monetization (less than 1,000 subscribers or 4,000 hours of watch time in the past 12 months), you will lose access to monetization features on February 20th, 2023. However, you can still reapply once you reach the required numbers. YouTube will also pay out any remaining earnings in your AdSense account.

If you do not meet the existing requirements for monetization and are not in the YPP, you will not be able to apply for monetization until you do. However, you can still grow your channel and audience by creating engaging and original content, optimizing your videos for search and discovery, and interacting with your viewers.
